Bridle Fitting

bridle fitting appointments

The horse’s head has so many nerves and bony structures close to the surface, and a badly fitting bridle can cause all sorts of pressure points and problem areas. Does your horse madly rub his head as soon as you take the bridle off? Is he tense through the poll, or sensitive behind his ears? Does he object to you doing up the noseband, or even putting the bridle on? All can be signs that something is perhaps causing discomfort and can affect your horse’s way of going when you are riding.

I can check the fit of your existing bridle, and we can go through any anatomical features particular to your horse that may cause issues for bridle fitting, such as a narrow space between the back of the ears and the wing of the atlas, or perhaps a particularly prominent facial crest. If you are looking for a new bridle I can use my demo pieces to build a custom fit bridle for your horse. You can then try riding in the bridle to make sure you and your horse are both happy with the fit.

Montar Bridle Features

Made out of the softest Italian leather, it’s the attention to detail that I like about these bridles. The Adapt headpiece can be altered to fit the angle behind your horse’s ears, and has a poll relief design which can make a big difference if your horse is particularly sensitive in this area. The Excellence headpiece is soft and padded, but is much narrower, suiting those horses that have a very narrow gap behind the ears and the wing of the atlas. The nosebands are all designed to sit away from sensitive nerve endings, with extra, soft padding over the nasal bone.

Normandie Bridle

A shaped headpiece, with a gap for poll relief, and soft padding to cushion sensitive areas over the poll and nasal bone. The browband is curved to compliment the horse’s face. It attaches using press studs at either side so can be easily changed. The flash strap loop is removable as it fits through the width of the noseband, ensuring that if the flash is used, the pull is not just on the edge of the noseband and so keeps the leather straight.

RRP £245

Excellence Bridle

A narrower, shaped headpiece with soft cushioning to protect the sensitive area behind the ears. The noseband sits more in the style of a drop, with the curve of the strap following the shape of the face, and additional padding over the nasal bone.

RRP £237

Monarch Bridle

The Adapt headpiece offers excellent poll relief, and can be adjusted to suit the shape of the curve needed behind the ears. The noseband is shaped to miss the sensitive nerves of the face and support the bit - offering stability in the mouth.
